In this episode, Dr. Mariana Zarankin talks with Dr. Julia Javkin — psychiatrist, acupuncturist, and dancer — who specializes in psychedelic medicine and somatic therapy. Julia will share insights from a three-year research project carried out in Spain, led by Lic. Deborah Gonzales, where they supported people grieving the loss of a loved one by combining psychotherapy with Ayahuasca. She will open up about the sessions, her reflections, and discuss both the risks and benefits of this approach. Together with Dr. Zarankin, they’ll reflect on the dominant medical paradigm and explore the pros and cons of using ketamine therapeutically.
Dr. Julia Javkin is a psychiatrist with an integrative perspective. Her work spans psychedelic medicine, somatic therapy, and addictions. She collaborates in international projects and co-leads retreats in the Netherlands with psychologist Anouk Bindels, focused on trauma and somatics. She is part of the medical team at ICEERS and recently published a study on Ayahuasca and grief. Currently based in Barcelona, she runs the organization Kiyumi alongside Dr. Gabor Maté.
